Wayne Starkey made an impact on both ends of the ice for BostonState College and is considered one of the best offensivedefensemen in school history. The blueliner was a part of twohistoric Warrior teams, having made a significant contribution tothe 1965-66 team that finished with a 20-0-0 mark and a number onenational ranking with 15 points on nine goals and six assists andthe 1967-68 team that finished fourth in the country afteradvancing to the national semifinals with 17 points, including fivescores and a career-high 12 assists. Starkey played on BostonState's top penalty killing unit for his entire career and standsthird among the school's defensemen with 68 career points. He alsoranks seventh among BSC blueliners with 32 assists and second with36 goals, including a school-record total of three goals in oneperiod during the 1966-67 campaign. He was named All-East andAll-New England following his senior year that saw him lead theWarriors' defensemen with a career-best 21 points on 10 goals and11 assists. He also helped Boston State to a fourth straightCodfish Bowl Championship, while being named ECAC Player of theWeek for the third time in his career. He helped the Warriors tocompile a 58-34-1 mark during his 90-game career and graduated fromBSC in 1969. Following his time at State, Starkey served hiscountry for the Army from 1970-72 and was a member of the HonorGuard at Arlington National Cemetery in 1972. He has stayed activein amateur leagues for parts of 17 years and has served hiscommunity as a Eucharistic Minister for Infant Jesus Church in PortJefferson, New York and for Special Ministry to Echo Arms AdultHome. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Knightsof Columbus.
