The first UMass Boston women’s program to ever win an NCAA Regional Championship, the 2010 edition of Beacons volleyball sparked an unprecedented decade of success on the harbor campus. The highest-ranked team in volleyball history, the Beacons produced a 30-5 record and the program’s first-ever undefeated Little East Conference regular season record under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Terry Condon.

Among the nation’s top players were Hall of Famers Cassy Hanneman ’12 and Shannon Thompson ’13. Thompson earned AVCA First Team All-America honors after the record setting year. Hanneman established herself as one of the top setters in the country.

During the regular season, the Beacons produced two impressive win streaks before dominating WestConn and Keene State College in the LEC Tournament. In the NCAA Regional Tournament, hosted by Springfield College, the Beacons dismantled Maine Maritime Academy and Middlebury College.

In the regional title match, the Beacons played one of the best matches in program history as they battled the host Pride. UMass Boston would prove victorious, defeating Springfield 3-2 to earn the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
