As a junior, Place and her teammates shocked the LEC world when they advanced to the program’s first LEC Championships match, after defeating a ranked Eastern Connecticut State University team in penalty kicks.

The leader of the Beacons defensive unit, Place and her linemates held opponents scoreless 12 times in her season, which is second-most all-time. In her four seasons, the Beacons notched an impressive 36 blank sheets.

A four-time All-Conference selection, Place also garnered NSCAA All-Region honors in 2010 and 2011. She also ended her career as a two-time ECAC New England and New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-Region honoree.

One of the greatest defensive players in women’s soccer history, Samantha Place ’12 played an integral part in leading the Beacons to unprecedented success during her four seasons. An All-Region honoree, Place was respected and feared by all of her opponents after her arrival on the harbor campus. The New Jersey native started in 67 games for the Beacons and led the squad to an impressive 50 wins, which included the program’s first-ever trip to the LEC Tournament, and first-ever LEC postseason win.
