Ken "Nippy" Hall is arguably the greatest basketball player inUMass Boston history. Hall began his career as the school began itsbasketball program and finished his career as one of the firstfour-year letterman at the school. That fact alone is noteworthy,but Hall still stands as the Beacons' all-time leading scorer with1,945 points in 95 games to average 20.5 points per outing andranks number one in career field goals made with 831 and assistswith 458 (4.8 apg.). One of the most well-rounded players inschool-history, Hall finished with 731 rebounds (7.7 rpg.) to rankthird on the career ladder and places second with 231 steals, whileowning a .495 (831-1679) career field goal percentage to put himeighth in UMB annals. The 6'4" forward averaged no less than 18.6points per game and increased his average in every season he was atUMass Boston, including his senior campaign that saw him score 23.5points per game as the nation's 10th-leading scorer. Hall was namedto the NABC All-District and ECAC All-Star squads for both hisjunior and senior seasons, while leading the Beacons to the besttwo-year record (36-19, .655%) in the program's history, whichincluded the team's first NCAA appearance and a national ranking onthe heals of a 19-9 record in 1982-83 and an ECAC Tournamentshowing in 1983-84. A two-year captain, Hall was the team's MostValuable Player as a junior and senior and was named a tournamentMVP five times in his last year and was selected to 10all-tournament teams in his final two seasons. Following hiscollegiate playing career, Hall remained active within thecommunity, playing basketball for 10 years in the BNBL with theShelburne Mash and also spent 10 years in the New England Pro-Amleague. He has coached in the BNBL, at Northeastern Universitysummer camps and at the Perkins Community Center for over 20 years.He's currently the Assistant Director of Facilities at RoxburyCommunity College.
