A member of the first UMass Boston softball and volleyball varsity programs, Delaney will be one of seven new members to be honored this October in the university’s annual ceremony.

Delaney becomes the first softball and volleyball dual athlete to earn a place in the prestigious Hall of Fame.

On the softball field, Delaney was one of the most dominant pitchers of her era. Currently ranked in the top-10 in complete games with 29, Delaney at one time stood as the program leader in innings pitched with 205.0. Her seven wins in a season stood as the program best for nearly a decade, while her 17 career wins has her tied for fourth all-time.

Her 164 strikeouts are third most in program history, as she was the first player in school history to reach the 100 career strikeout plateau. Her 5.60 strikeouts per seven innings pitched still stands as the program’s best mark.

On the hardwood, Delaney played a major part in helping the Beacons to their first double-digit win season in 1982. In that season, UMass Boston finished with a 14-5 mark under former head coach Mary Ann Sowell. It was also in that year that they made the first-ever postseason tournament appearance as they competed in the M.A.I.A.W. State Tournament.
