Sports Medicine Information

Sports Medicine Mission Statement

The UMass Boston Sports Medicine Staff provides our student-athletes with access to the highest quality patient care and the most current health and injury prevention information. Staff members provide prevention, evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries to UMB varsity athletes. Our staff includes licensed and board certified athletic trainers along with our orthopedic physician, Dr. Michael Beasley, from Boston Children’s Hospital. We are committed to providing the best possible care for all of our student athletes and we serve as advocates for the student-athlete when individual health issues arise.

Location/Hours

The Athletic Training Facility is located on the lower level of the Clark Athletic Center. The entrance is located across from the gymnasium. The training room will be open 1 hour prior to the start of practice and 2 hours before a competition. It will close 30 minutes after the conclusion of both practice and competition. Hours vary daily and depend on the scheduling of practice and competitions. A calendar will be posted weekly outside of the ATR with daily hours.

Visiting Teams

The UMass Boston Athletic Training staff will be more than accommodating to opposing teams in providing pre-game taping. Visiting teams must supply their own tape and wraps and the use of moist heat packs must be pre-arranged by the visiting team’s athletic trainer. All visiting teams will be provided with water, ice bags, and cups at their respective bench. Water bottles can be provided if requested by the visiting team’s athletic trainer.
