Paul Murphy has been acclaimed as one of the greatest athletesin Boston State College history. Over his four years at BSC, Murphyearned 10 varsity letters, the most by any Warrior in the athleticdepartment's history and would have earned the maximum of 12 had henot suffered a broken leg which caused him to miss two seasons. Athree-sport athlete is Soccer, Wrestling and Lacrosse, Murphyexcelled on the Lacrosse field leading the Warriors to threeColonial League Championships in which they went undefeated inconference play each year to earn a berth in the ECAC Championshipsin 1974, '75 and '76. Murphy was named a Colonial League All-Starattackman in 1973, '74 and '75 before being named team captain aswell as an All-New England attackman in 1976 which earned him theright to play in the 1976 New England All-Star Lacrosse game. Overhis career, the Warriors lacrosse program posted a 39-22 record fora .639 winning percentage and he would graduate as the program'sleader in points and assists with 169 total points on 57 goals and112 assists over 61 career games. He led the team in assists allfour seasons, led the team in points as a sophomore with acareer-high 53 points while ranking second on the squad in pointsduring his freshman (35 points), junior (44 points) and senior (41points) campaigns. Murphy was also a very talented wrestler,placing second at the Freshman All-New England tournament whileearning the Most Valuable Player award in 1974 after posting a 12-1record. He was dubbed the team's captain in both 1974 and 1975.Following his Boston State days, Murphy began coaching lacrosse atNewton South High School where he was tabbed the Boston Globe Coachof the Year in 1984. For the past 16 years he has been coaching atthe college level and is currently the head coach at WentworthInstitute of Technology.
