Stephanie Bogues was one of the best post players to don theUMass Boston uniform for the women's basketball team from 1985-89and was named a Little East Conference First Team All-Star as ajunior and senior, while being selected to the Second Team as asophomore. The 5'10" forward was an intimidating force in theblocks for the Beacons owning the school-record for blocks in agame (nine), season (67 in 1986-87) and career with 179 rejections.A 1995 graduate, she also ranks second and sixth on the all-timeseason blocks list with 58 as a senior and 43 during her sophomorecampaign. Bogues wasn't just good at keeping the ball out of thehoop, but she was one of the school's best at collecting it aroundthe rim with 805 career rebounds to rank fourth all-time at UMB,while owning the eighth-highest mark in a season with 276 as asenior and averaging nine or more rebounds per game in threedifferent seasons. The reserved Bogues was named the team's captainfor her senior season and responded by leading the squad in scoringand rebounding with 17.1 points and 11.0 rebounds, the seventh and10th highest averages all-time, respectively, in a season for theBeacons. Her total of 427 points is still the fourth-highest totalin school history and gave her 1,129 points for her career, whichalso places her fourth in school annals. The Dorchester nativeshowed that she could convert from the line as well, making 14 freethrows vs. Eastern Nazarene on January 19, 1989, which was aschool-record that stood for 18 years. A fixture in UMass Boston'sline-up, she started 82 of 84 games, while averaging 13.4 pointsand 9.6 rebounds, marks that rank her sixth and fourth,respectively, at UMB.
