Myles Berry was a fixture of the UMass Boston athletic department for nearly 40 years in his roles as an administrator and head coach, leading the men’s lacrosse, men’s soccer and women’s soccer programs during his tenure. He also held a variety of administrative roles in the Athletics Department up until his retirement in June 2022.

Berry led the UMass Boston men’s lacrosse program from 1988–2007, totaling a program-record 147 wins. UMass Boston posted a near-perfect 12-1 record in 1996, setting a new program record for wins that would be matched by the 2001 squad’s 12-5 ledger. That total remained the program record for wins in a season until 2022.

Berry was the founding head coach of the Beacons’ women’s soccer program in 1995, leading the team to 16 victories over its first three seasons as a varsity program. Berry later guided the men’s soccer program to 77 victories from 2003–12, including a career-best 11 wins in the 2006 and 2011. His men’s soccer players earned 10 All-LEC honors and four National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region honors.

He was a three-time LEC Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year. In addition, he was named the LEC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2006, making him the first-ever individual to be named LEC Coach of the Year for two different sports in the same calendar year.

Berry was inducted in the UMass Boston Hall of Fame in 2022.
