HOW IT HAPPENED

Two days after suffering their first Little East Conference sweep of the season, the Beacons couldn't get anything going on against last season's Little East Conference Tournament Runner-Ups.

Sophomore Kelsey Whiting (Sharon, Mass.) had the best day of her collegiate career as a Beacon, as she pitched in both games and threw 2.2 innings of scoreless softball.

GAME ONE

Weber was a difference maker in game one, as the senior catcher went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, including a three-run homer.

In the circle, Alle Sabith allowed just three hits and one walk in seven innings, while striking out five.

Lauren Mitsiaris (Taunton, Mass.), Alexa St. Angelo (Cranston, R.I.) and Kristina Bove (Medford, Mass.) each had one hit in the loss.

Freshman pitcher Annie Thomas (Lunenburg, Mass.) suffered through her worst career outing, as she was charged for six earned runs in five innings of work. Thomas struck out six to go over 100 for her career (105). Whiting came on in the sixth and threw a perfect inning, while striking out one.

After a pair of scoreless innings to start the day, Weber got the hosts on the board with a three-run homer with two down in the bottom of the third.

The Colonials tacked on two more in the fourth, with Kayla Nowak providing an RBI double and coming home to score on an RBI groundout.

Michaela Roche pushed the lead to 6-0 in the fifth with a two-out RBI double  to score Weber.

UMass Boston finally got a runner to second base in the top of the sixth, but Kaitlyn Morse (Arlington, Mass.) was stranded at second after walking with one out.

GAME TWO

The Colonials used a pair of RBI extra-base hits and Emily Cintorino spun a gem for the hosts in game two, to help Western Connecticut State earn a 6-0 win.

Sabith and Jenna Gaudioso each had a pair of hits for the hosts, while Nowak provided a big two-run single.

Cintorino faced just four batters over the minimum, as she allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out three.

Gia Raczkowski (Stoneham, Mass) and Roxanne Vento (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the Beacons' lone hits in game two.

Vic Zechello (Westborough, Mass.) took the loss, as she allowed nine hits and six earned runs, while walking four. Whiting came on and threw a career-high 1.2 innings, with one strikeout and two walks.

Maegan Rodriguez gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, with an RBI single. It could have easily been 2-0, but Bove's throw home from left field erased Lydia Walter who was trying to score from second.

Western Connecticut State blew the game open in the third, as they scored three runs on five hits and an error. After a pair of singles an error and a wild pitch made it 2-0, Weber and Roche hit back-to-back extra-base hits to push the lead to 4-0.

Nowak closed out the scoring on the day in the fifth, when she singled up the middle to score a pair of runners.

UMass Boston had more success offensively in game two, but they couldn't plate any of their four runners that moved into scoring position.
