CASTLETON, Vt. (May 8, 2026) – Behind a complete game shutout from Lauryn Meade (Hanson, Mass.) and a clutch sacrifice fly by Avery Weinstein (Winnekta, Ill.), UMass Boston (27-11) edged UMass Dartmouth 1-0 in a tense Little East Conference Tournament matchup. The Beacons manufactured the game's only run in the seventh inning to claim their eighth consecutive victory.
How It Happened
The game quickly developed into a classic pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring through six innings as both starters silenced opposing lineups. In the top of the seventh, Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Ore.) drew a walk. Izzy Levasseur(Amesbury, Mass.) reached on an error to spark the Beacons, pushing Matthews to third. With one out, Avery Weinstein lofted a deep fly to center, allowing Matthews to tag and score. That lone run held up as Meade shut the door in the bottom half, stranding the tying run on base and clinching her seventh shutout of the year.
By the Numbers
The Beacons recorded just two hits—one apiece from Amaya Rodriguez (Indio, Calif.) and Ella Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.)—but drew four walks and stole two bases. Lauryn Meade allowed six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in her complete game effort. UMass Boston left six runners on base while UMass Dartmouth stranded seven. The Beacons improved to 7-0 in shutout games this season and now boast their longest winning streak of 2026.
