Newton, Mass. (April 13, 2026) – UMass Boston men's lacrosse (7-6, 3-1 Little East Conference) exploded for nine goals in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 16-10 victory over Lasell in a non-conference road contest at Grellier Field.
How it Happened:
The game opened with UMass Boston striking first, as Nolen Beauregard (Walpole, Mass.) found the back of the net at 10:04 of the first quarter. Lasell quickly tied it before Jaden Cronin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) restored the lead, and Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, Conn.) converted a man-up opportunity off a Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) assist to push it to 3-1. Lasell's Julian Vogel pulled one back before the horn, and the Beacons took a 3-2 lead into the second. Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, N.Y.) beat the buzzer at the end of the second quarter off a rare goalie-assist from James Boldy (Wrentham, Mass.) to send UMass Boston into halftime up 4-2.
The third quarter was the most dramatic of the afternoon. Lasell erupted for four consecutive goals — from Matthew Carbone, Vogel, Nicholas Kaufman, and Nate Campbell — to take a 6-4 lead with just over 11 minutes gone in the period. UMass Boston responded with three straight of its own, as Schartner and Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, NY) twice clawed the Beacons back in front, closing the quarter with a 7-6 edge.
UMass Boston left no doubt in the fourth. Cronin, Brayden MacLean (Stow, Mass.), Matthew Konareski (Guilford, Conn.), and Hilgert scored in rapid succession to push the lead to 11-6. Lasell mounted a brief comeback, pulling within two at 11-9, before the Beacons poured it on late. Konareski added his second of the quarter, followed by goals from Schartner, Matt Laverty (Barnstable, Mass.), Hank Alessandro (Barrington, R.I.), and finally Hutchings again — completing his hat trick with the game's final goal at 0:17 — to seal the 16-10 win.
