BOSTON, MA (April 18, 2026) – The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team (9-6, 5-1 Little East Conference) celebrated Senior Day in style with a commanding 19-10 victory over Little East Conference foe Keene State on Saturday at James Cotter Field. A nine-goal explosion in the second quarter propelled the Beacons to their fourth straight win.
The Beacons and Owls traded blows in a tight first quarter. Senior Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, NY) opened the scoring less than five minutes into the contest off a feed from Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME) on a man-up opportunity. After Keene State evened the score with a man-up goal of their own, Hutchings struck again, this time assisted by Brayden MacLean (Stow, MA), to give UMass Boston a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
UMass Boston blew the game wide open in the second quarter, erupting for nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-1 lead into halftime. The run began just 41 seconds into the period with a goal from Matthew Konareski (Guilford, CT). The floodgates opened from there, as Jack Schartner (Bolton, MA) and Hutchings each netted two goals in the frame, while Jackson King (Jamesville, NY), Jaden Cronin (East Bridgewater, MA), and Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, CT) also found the back of the net.
The Beacons continued to pour it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Owls 6-2 to extend their lead to 17-3. The period was highlighted by a shorthanded tally from Hilgert and a man-up goal from Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, NY). Keene State rallied for seven fourth-quarter goals to cut the final deficit to nine, but it was never enough to threaten the outcome.
Hutchings led the offensive onslaught with a game-high five goals. Hilgert added four goals and an assist for five points, while Schartner found the back of the net four times on a game-high 12 shots. Allan contributed one goal and two assists to anchor the attack. In goal, James Boldy (Wrentham, MA) made 13 saves to earn the victory. As a team, the Beacons fired 51 shots and forced 30 turnovers.
