GORHAM, Maine (April 15, 2026) – UMass Boston men's lacrosse (8-6, 4-1 Little East Conference) delivered a dominant statement in LEC action, exploding for 29 goals to defeat Southern Maine 29-6 on Wednesday.
How It Happened
UMass Boston wasted no time taking control, answering an early Southern Maine strike with back-to-back goals from Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME) to grab a lead they would never relinquish. The Beacons rattled off seven first-quarter goals — with Patrick Dwinnells (Ashland, Mass.), Jack Schartner (Bolton, Conn.), and Nolen Beauregard (Walpole, Mass.) all finding the back of the net — to build a 7-3 advantage after one.
The second quarter proved to be the turning point, as UMass Boston outscored Southern Maine 13-0 to break the game open. Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, NY) was the offensive catalyst, burying a man-up goal in the second quarter as part of a game-high five-goal afternoon. Jackson King (Jamesville, NY), Brayden MacLean (Stow, Mass.), and Beauregard each chipped in during the dominant stretch, sending the Beacons into halftime with a 20-3 lead.
After the break, UMass Boston never let up. Dale Wills (Summit, NJ) kept pressure on with a four-goal outing, and Ryan Steckman-Buck (North Massapequa, NY) orchestrated the offense with three goals and three assists. The Beacons' depth was on full display as Charlie Bunger (Babylon, NY), Max White (Amesbury, Mass.), David Oman (Sandwich, Mass.), and Sawyer Leonard (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) each added goals in a strong second half.
UMass Boston's relentless attack produced a better than 6-to-1 shot advantage, outshooting the Huskies 79-13. The Beacons also won the ground ball battle 49-19, dominated at the faceoff X with Jack Baker (Bellingham, Mass.) going 15-for-22, and held Southern Maine to just 13 total shots. The 23-goal margin of victory caps another commanding performance in conference play.
