Beacons Look to Keep Perfect Season Alive

Boston, MA (March 31st, 2025) — UMass Boston softball hits the road for its next two double headers. The Beacons travel to Framingham State University to take on the Rams on Tuesday, April 1st before heading to Bridgewater State University to face the Bears on Wednesday, April 3rd. Following this road trip, the Beacons return home to host their first LEC games of the season against the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen on Saturday, April 5th. 
 
The Basics: 
 
Beacons: 14-0 (Overall), 0-0 (Conference) 
 
Rams: 11-5 (Overall), 1-1  (Conference)
 
Bears: 8-6 (Overall), 1-1 (Conference) 
 
Anchorwomen: 12-8 (Overall), 1-1 (Conference) 
 
 
Beacons: 
  • The Beacons continued their perfect 14-0 season March 27th at home against Rivier College with a doubleheader sweep, winning the first game 10-8 and the second 11-4. 
  • Sofie Richland (South Burlington, VT) eclipsed 100 career hits in the Beacons' most recent series. 
  • A few more Beacons are approaching the 100 career-hit milestone in the upcoming series. Bri Melchionda (Marshfield, MA) currently sits at 99 career hits, while Haley Tilberry (Moosic, Pa.) and Lauren Miner (Millbury, MA) both have 97 career hits. Amauri English (North Providence, R.I.) is also closing in, with 92 career hits.
  • English, Miner, Richland, and Bri Melchionda (Marshfield, MA) are all batting above .400 this season. 
  • As a team, the Beacons are stealing bases at an impressive 97% success rate, having combined for 62 stolen bases in 64 attempts. 
  •  Jacqueline Cherry (Franklin, MA) continues to impress on the mound, with her ERA sitting at an outstanding 0.70 in 30 innings pitched. She has recorded 30 strikeouts and just 11 walks this season. 
  • Bri Melchionda hit the Beacons' most recent home run on March 26th against Emmanuel College. 
 
Rams: 
  • The Rams are coming off an 8-4 win against Bridgewater State University on Friday, March 28th. 
  • Brooke Grassia leads the Rams with 23 hits and currently holds a team-high batting average with .442. 
  • Makayla Rooney (Peabody, MA) leads the Rams in both home runs (2) and slugging percentage (.561). 
  • Audrey Gauthier (Dexter, MA) was recently named MASAC Softball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 23rd. She posted 42 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched. 
 
Bears: 
  • The Bears are coming off an 8-4 loss against Framingham State University in their last outing on March 28th. 
  • Makayla Ansell (Menifee, CA) leads her team with 17 hits and 4 triples.  
  • Olivia Hargreaves (Weare, NH) leads the Rams with 27 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched. 
  • Victoria Becker (Abington, MA) is posting a team leading .400 batting average this season. 
 
Anchorwomen: 
  • Rhode Island College is coming off a 5-0 win against the University of Southern Maine on March 28th. 
  • Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) and Melanie Early (Lumberton, N.J.) share the team lead in home runs with two. Young also leads her team in RBIs this season with 18. 
  • Pitchers Ashleigh Von Der Linden (Stratham, NH) and Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) both hold a 6-3 record with each recording over 50 strikeouts. 
  • Von Der Linden was recently named LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA and 11 strikeouts over the stretch.
