BOSTON, Mass. (May 1, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (20-19, 8-8 Little East Conference) delivered a memorable Senior Day at Monan Park, sweeping Plymouth State with an 11-0 run-rule shutout in Game One and an inspiring 11-9 comeback victory in Game Two. The Beacons honored their seniors with a flawless home finale, clinching a .500 conference record and securing valuable momentum heading into the postseason.
How it Happened:
Game One saw everything click for the Beacons as they set the tone early. In the first inning, Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) singled home two runs before Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) broke things open in the second with a three-run home run, quickly making it 5-0. The Beacons kept the pressure on, with Gaer adding an RBI double in the fourth and Wes Sturrup (Rochester, N.Y.) clearing the bases with a three-run double in the fifth. Cameron Fisher (Canton, Conn.) was untouchable on the mound, striking out a career-high 11 over five scoreless innings. Austin Stone (Boylston, Mass.) and Jack Cangelosi (Williamstown, Mass.) combined for two more shutout innings to complete the five-hit, 13-strikeout shutout in just seven frames.
Game Two tested UMass Boston's resolve after Plymouth State erupted for seven runs in the opening frame. The Beacons immediately answered as Miles lifted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Down 8-2 after two, UMass Boston chipped away with RBI from Sturrup and Justin Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.), then capitalized on a wild pitch and Miles' sacrifice fly to pull within two. The sixth inning proved decisive: Nicolas Piscioniere (Shelton, Conn.) delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double to tie the game at eight, and Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) followed with a go-ahead RBI single. The Beacons tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, and the bullpen trio of Owen Ellsworth (Northborough, Mass.), Alex Meesig (Nashua, N.H.), and Ben Cherry (Manchester, Conn.) locked down the victory, sealing one of the program's most determined comebacks of the season.
