Baseball Responds in LEC Tournament With Convincing Win Over Vermont State Castleton

GORHAM, Maine (May 7, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (21-21, 8-8 Little East Conference) kept its postseason alive and regained momentum in the 2026 Little East Conference Tournament with a dominant 9-2 victory over Vermont State University Castleton on Day Two at the Ed Flaherty field. Behind a complete-game effort from Cameron Fisher (Canton, Conn.) and a four-hit, four-RBI day at the plate from Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.), the Beacons rebounded authoritatively from a lopsided opening-round defeat.

How it Happened:

UMass Boston wasted little time seizing control, striking for three runs in the opening inning. Caden Lindskog (Taunton, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to score Brandon Gaer, followed by Gaer's own RBI single plating Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.), and then Miles doubled to drive in Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, N.Y.), giving the Beacons a quick 3-0 lead. The advantage grew to 4-0 in the third, as Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) brought home Miles on a sacrifice grounder.

Fisher set the tone on the mound, holding Vermont State Castleton scoreless through seven innings. The Beacons' defense was sharp behind him, committing no errors all afternoon. UMass Boston threatened in multiple frames but broke the game open with a decisive five-run outburst in the eighth. Gaer delivered the game's pivotal swing, ripping a bases-clearing single to plate Miles, Farnacci and Dylan Kennedy-Fujah (North Branford, Conn.). A throwing error on a steal attempt allowed Nicolas Piscioniere (Shelton, Conn.) to score, and Chase Beloin (Avon, Conn.) capped the inning with an RBI double that scored Lindskog.

Vermont State Castleton managed their only offense in the eighth with a two-run home run by Justin Strozyk, but Fisher finished strong to seal the complete-game win and keep UMass Boston moving forward in the tournament.

By the Numbers:

Brandon Gaer finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and one run scored, including a three-run single in the eighth
Cameron Fisher pitched all nine innings, striking out eight, allowing just two earned runs and issuing zero walks on 120 pitches
Elliot Miles reached base three times, scored three runs, tallied one RBI, drew two walks and stole one base
Caden Lindskog went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored
Nick Farnacci walked twice and scored two runs
• UMass Boston drew eight walks as a team and struck out only twice at the plate
• The Beacons committed zero errors in the field.
• UMass Boston has now swept all three meetings with Vermont State Castleton this season and improved its neutral-site record to 4-5
