New London, Conn. (April 11, 2026) -- The UMass Boston track and field team witnessed history on Saturday at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational, with senior
Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.) setting a new NCAA Division III National Record in the 100m hurdles, highlighting an outstanding team showing as the Beacons near closer to the 2026 Little East Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Across all comnpetitions, from the field, to indivdual events, to the jumper's pit and relay teams, the Beacons had a complete team showing just 24 hours following the Regis Spring Classic.
Women's Team:
Gareau finished first in the 100m hurdles in her only event on the day, cashing in on a lighter load. She cleared 10 hurdles in 13.40s with a legal 1.4 meters per second tailwind to shatter the previous NCAA DIII record of 13.54, her own record set just last season at the NCAA Championships. Her finish arrives just one week after she ran the number two ranked finish All-Time in All-Conditions at the Texas Relays (13.38), and 24 hours following two sub-11 finishes at the Regis Spring Classic.
- Amelia Caruso (Scarborough, Maine.) was one of four Beacons to place within the top-ten, placing ninth out of 30 competitors in 1:02.49.
- From the shotput circle, KatieTuohy (Groton, Conn.) threw to a 6th place finish with a 10.47m heave.
- In the women's javelin, Mariah Romaine (Plymouth, Mass.)Â led UMass Boston with a ninth place finish. She threw for a 27.75m best on the day.
- The sophomore duo of Kylee Browning (Attleboro, Mass.) and Abigail Churchill (Attleboro, Mass.) represented UMass Boston in the 800m, finishing in 2:50.53 and 3:02.31 respectively.
Men's Team:
The men's team continued to show improved development, with 11 top-ten finishers, highlighted by the competitive 400m hurdle crew of
Justin Riley (Weymouth, Mass.),
Omar Mishal (Peabody, Mass.) andÂ
Kurt Deitrich (Nanuet, N.Y.)Â who swept the top three finishing spots in the event.
- The men's 4x100m relay team consisting of Riley, Melvin Wiltshire (Boston, Mass.), Alex Martins (Malden, Mass.) and Liam Feliz Montilla (Boston, Mass.) took second overall out of eight competing teams in 43.41, falling to first place Nichols College in just 0.31 seconds.Â
- In the 200m dash, Feliz Montilla struck again, taking eighth place in 22.80 out of 65 competitors.
- The Beacons placed two underclassmen in the top 10 for the 800m dash, with first year Noah Gendebien (Lisbon, NY) and sophomore Skyre Roberts-Clarke (Boston, Mass.) placing third and tenth respectively. Gendebien took third in 2:04.52, followed by Roberts-Clarke in 2:08.44.
- Riley, Mishal, and Deitrich swept the 400m hurdles, with Mishal taking gold in 55.67, followed by Riley in 57.77, then Deitrich in 58.01.
- Feliz Montilla capped his showstopping outing in the high jump, tying for second place with a 1.86m clearance.
- From the shotput circle, Olutemi Alofe (Roslindale, Mass.) led the Beacons with a third place finish, throwing for 13.89m, outthrowing 39 other competitors.Â
- First year Emmanuel Guzman (Boston, Mass.) and junior Elmani Debarros (Boston, Mass.) each placed within the top ten out of 26 throwers in the javelin throw. Guzman took fourth overall with a 52.12m throw, followed by Debarros with a 41.61m best.
The Beacons look to build on the momentum at the Bonnie Edmonson Classic from Willimantic, Conn., on Friday at 9:00 AM.
