Swarthmore, Pa. (Aug. 30, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons put up a strong fight on Saturday, going head-to-head with tournament host Swarthmore College and top-ranked Juniata College, but despite their efforts, ultimately fell in both matches. 

Match 1: Swarthmore 3, UMass Boston 1 

The Beacons opened the day with a strong showing against the tournament hosts. After dropping the first two sets, UMass Boston stormed back with a 25-22 win in the third, showcasing their resilience. Though Swarthmore closed it out in the fourth, the Beacons made them earn every point. 

• Mary Denny paced the attack with 10.5 points. 

• Kesmyn Alves contributed a solid 9 points on the day. 

• Mary Matthews was a defensive anchor with a season-high 30 digs, also adding a kill. 

• Audrey Cofield ran the offense with 26 assists and picked up 2 service aces. 

Match 2: #1 Juniata 3, UMass Boston 0 

Taking on the nation's top-ranked team less than an hour later, the Beacons battled Juniata point-for-point in the opening set, narrowly falling 25-23. 

• Addie Blomgren led the way with 8.5 points, highlighted by 4 kills and 4 solo blocks. She now has 14 total blocks through the team's first three matches. 

• Audrey Cofield dished out 14 of the team's 21 assists and chipped in 4 digs.
