Waltham, Mass. (Sep. 3, 2025) — UMass Boston volleyball showed grit and resilience on the road Wednesday night, narrowly falling to Brandeis University in a tightly contested three-set match.
How It Happened
From the first serve, the Beacons went point-for-point with the Judges in a set that featured no more than a three-point run by either side. UMass Boston held a late 22-21 lead, but Brandeis managed to edge ahead in the final moments to take the opening frame, 25-23.
Set two mirrored the first in competitiveness, with Brandeis jumping out to an early lead before the Beacons stormed back to tie it at 10, fueled by a commanding block from Mary Denny and Addie Blomgren. The Beacons continued to apply pressure and grabbed their first lead at 19-18. Despite another 22-21 advantage late in the set, UMass Boston just missed closing it out, falling again 25-23.
Brandeis sealed the match in the third 25-18.
