BOSTON, MA (September 5, 2025) – The UMass Boston women's volleyball team (1-3) secured its first win of the season on Senior Night, defeating the Salem State Vikings (1-1) in four sets (25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-9). Sophomore Kesmyn Alves (Brockton, Mass.) stepped up big in the win, leading the team offensively with nine kills.
The opening set featured back-and-forth play until the Beacons went on a 7-2 run to pull ahead by seven. Kills by Addie Blomgren (Riverside, Ill.), Colbie Atlas (Lafayette, Calif.), and Lauren Westlund (Phoenix, Ariz.) helped close out the set 25-14. UMass Boston hit efficiently, converting 11 of 31 total attacks with just two errors.
The Beacons started hot in set two, scoring six unanswered points, before Salem State responded with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the match. The Vikings held a late advantage at 23-17, but UMass Boston rallied to close within three (21-24) before Salem State secured the set 25-21.
Salem State carried momentum into the third set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The Beacons responded quickly, leveling the score at 8-8 before taking control with three straight points. From there, UMass Boston never relinquished the lead, winning the set 25-17 behind its most efficient offensive performance of the night, converting 11 of 25 total attacks with only three errors.
The fourth set belonged entirely to UMass Boston, as the Beacons opened on a 10-0 run and never looked back. They allowed just nine points in the frame to close out the match 25-9 in dominant fashion.
UMass Boston outplayed Salem State in every statistical category, leading in kills (32-25), aces (14-10), blocks (8-1), assists (29-22), and digs (71-58).

Alves, Westlund, and Blomgren combined for 20 kills, led by Alves with nine.

Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.), Amelia Devlin (West Chester, Pa.), and Alves combined for 12 service aces, with Cofield recording seven.

Mary Denny (Chicago, Ill.) paced the Beacons at the net with three total blocks, while Westlund and Blomgren added two each.

Cofield and Devlin set up the offense with 13 and 10 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Ore.) led all players with 15 digs and no errors, while Ruby Ackerman (Arcadia, Calif.) added 12 digs. Alves also contributed 10 digs.
