BOSTON, MA (August 28, 2025) — UMass Boston men's soccer head coach
Jake Beverlin and the Beacons are set to kick off the 2025 campaign on Friday, August 29, against Salve Regina at the Boston College High JV Field. Coming off a strong 2024 season, the Beacons aim to build on their success and push for a Little East Conference title and an NCAA Regional berth.
Looking Back
UMass Boston finished 2024 with a 10-1-6 record (6-0-2 LEC), earning the conference's No. 2 seed while maintaining the top defensive efforts in the league, allowing just nine goals in 17 matches. The Beacons swept three of the LEC's four major awards, as Beverlin and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year,
Logan Erickson Potter (Swansea, Mass.) earned Defensive Player of the Year, and
Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Key Returners
The Beacons return several impact players, including 2024 All-Conference selections
Luan Cruz (Everett, Mass.) and
Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.), who anchored the back line last fall. Offensively,
Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, BR.),
Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, BR.), and
Patrick Garcia (Brookline, Mass.) combined for 13 goals in 2024, while
John Arruda (Espirito Santo, BR.), the 2023 LEC Rookie of the Year, continues to grow as a key offensive contributor. Graduate
JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) makes a highly anticipated return from injury and is expected to take primary responsibilities between the posts.
Key Newcomers
The 2025 roster features 11 new additions, including six first-years, three sophomore transfers, and one junior Division I transfer.
Quinn O'Hearn (Waterford, Virg.) joins coach Beverlin from Saint Francis University (NCAA DI), and is expected to make an immediate impact.
LEC Preseason Poll
The 2025 LEC Preseason Coaches' Poll resulted in UMass Boston being selected as the first of the nine affiliate members to win the conference championship in 2025.
Positional Breakdown
- Forwards: Led by Chirico, who tallied a team-high five goals last season, the Beacons' six-player front line includes Arruda, Jahiem Perez (East Boston, Mass.), Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, Brazil), Nick Braganca(Beverly, Mass.), and first-year Cam Ramos (Hopedale, Mass.). Perez is the lone senior in a group blending experience and youth.
- Midfielders: The deepest unit on the roster features 14 players, highlighted by 2023 LEC Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and offensive playmaking threat Felipe De Andrade (Westborough, Mass.), both of whom make a long overdue return from injury in 2025. Transfers Ronan Blake (Norwell, Mass.) and O'Hearn among others add depth and versatility.
- Defenders: the LEC's best defense returns 2024 All-LEC First Team defensive anchor Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Jair Whyte (Easton, Mass.) who started in 12 of all 17 games played last season. The back line gains experienced reinforcements in transfers Michael Lewis (Wilmington, Mass.) and Ryan Doherty (Quincy, Mass.), along with first-years Victor Carneiro (Gilbertsville, Penn.) and Diego Rivera (Easton, Mass.), who add size and athleticism.
- Goalkeepers: Devine is expected to handle primary responsibilities between the posts. Sophomore transfer William Martinez and first-year Nolan McKenna will support him on the depth chart.
