PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 22, 2025) – The UMass Boston men's track and field team scored in three events at the Little East Conference 2025 Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Beacons sent 10 qualifying athletes to Providence and competed hard at the LEC's final showing.

Through their performances, the Beacons tallied five points and set four new personal records through their determination among the conference's elite.
Sophomore
Justin Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) set a new personal record in the men's 60m hurdles, qualifying for finals in 9.01s. Once there, the sophomore picked up two points and finished fifth with a 9.03s mark. Riley also represented the Beacs in the 400m dash, finishing in 53.85s.
Derrick Touba (Yonkers, N.Y.) was the sole representative in the men's 60m dash. In preliminaries, he qualified for finals with a 7.16s finish. In finals, Touba tabbed another 7.16s finish for a seventh-place finish.
Junior
Robert Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) doubled up in the men's 3,000m and 5,000m runs, setting two new PRs in his efforts. In the 3k, Cannon finished in 9:53.68s, followed by a nearly 25-second PR in the 5k with a 17:06.13s finish.
The Beacons sent two relay teams, a 4x200 and a 4x400m team. The 4x200m team consisting of
Melvin Wiltshire (Boston, Mass.), Touba, Riley, and
Alex Martins (Malden, Mass.) finished in 1:34.86s. The 4x400m team consisting of
Elaijah Monterio (New Bedford, Mass.),
Isaiah Stressman, Wiltshire, and Riley, finished in fifth place with a 3:37.40s for one point.
In the triple jump, Stressman joined first-year
Ryan Meacham (Trumbull, Conn.) to represent UMass Boston. Meacham led both Beacons with a new collegiate-best 12.29m in the event, followed by Stressman with a 12.04m best.
Olutemi Alofe and
Neville Richards (Wellington, Fla.) represented the Beacons from the thrower's circle. In the men's shotput, Alofe finished in sixth place with a new personal-best 13.11m heave to salvage another point in the event. Richards followed Alofe with an 11.87m toss. Richards represented the Beacons in the weight throw with an 11.97m best in Providence.
The top scorers on the men's side included the 4x400m relay team with two points, Riley with two points in the men's 60m hurdles, and Alofe with one point in the men's shot put to round out the Beacons' tally at this year's LEC Indoor Championships.
For select qualifiers, the Beacons will compete next week (Feb. 28 – Mar. 1) at the NCAA Division III Regional meet at the TRACK at New Balance, featuring the best competitors from the New England region. For those who do not qualify to continue into the postseason, their next competition will occur following spring break in the first outdoor competition of the spring season.
