PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 18, 2025) – Following the conclusion of the 2025 Little East Conference Volleyball Tournament, the LEC has announced that the UMass Boston volleyball coaching staff has been named the 2025 LEC Coaching Staff of the Year, with four Beacons earning spots on the conference's All-LEC teams.
In her third season at the helm, Head Coach Stacy Cheney collected her first career LEC Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Beacons to a 14-13 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play. UMass Boston entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed, matching the projections of the conference's preseason poll and improving one spot from their third-place finish in 2024.
The Beacons' postseason recognition continued as four student-athletes earned All-Conference accolades:
Matthews appeared in 94 sets across 26 matches, leading the conference with 5.12 digs per set (481 total). She committed only 17 reception errors for a 96% reception rate while also contributing 86 assists and 26 service aces.
Coulson played 91 sets in 26 matches and led the Beacons with 283.5 total points (3.12 pts/set). She finished the year averaging 2.7 kills per set (246 total) and added 31 service aces.
Cofield ranked among the top playmakers in the conference, finishing the season with 694 assists (7.15 per set). She also tallied 58 service aces, the fifth-most in the LEC (0.60 per set).
Mary Denny – All-LEC Sportsmanship Team
Denny provided consistent impact on and off the court, appearing in 95 sets and totaling 201 points (2.12 pts/set). She recorded 158 kills (1.66 per set), 19 service aces, 169 digs, and 44 total blocks while serving as an all-around spark plug for the Beacons.
