BOSTON, MA (September 26, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's soccer team returns to play in non-conference action against the Husson University Eagles from the John P. Boucher Field in Bangor, Maine on Saturday, September 28.
Previously
  • Saturday's contest marks just the second meeting in history between the Beacons and the Eagles. The first matchup took place over 16 years ago, and saw the Eagles notch six goals against the Beacons' two.
This Season
  • The Beacons are 5-1-3 (1-0 Little East Conference) heading into Saturday's contest. They are rolling into the weekend following a 1-1 draw against a gritty WPI opponent from their home turf. In seven starts, junior goalkeeper Julia Cote (Baldwinville, Mass.) has kept an unbeaten record, maintaining a 4-0-2 record by tallying 37 total saves against 77 total shots for a .822% save percentage thus far. Junior midfielder Andrea Rivera (San Juan, P.R.) lead all UMass Boston goal scorers with five goals on 25 shots in eight games started. First years Kathryn Brown (Somers, Conn.) and Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) have proven themselves as pivotal pieces to the Beacons attack, as Schallmo has registered five assists and three goals over her last three games. Brown is the Beacons' secondary goal scorer behind Rivera, as she's found twine on four occasions. First-year midfielder Lucinda Cotter has also stepped up in her rookie season, supplying a goal and three assists in nine games played.
  • The Husson University Eagles are 3-4 (2-0 North Atlantic Conference) this season, fresh off a 9-0 onslaught against Thomas College. The Eagles have won their three games by a margin of three or more in each victory: 6-3 vs SUNY Potsdam, 4-0 vs the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and 9-0 vs Thomas College. The Eagles' leading goal-scorer, senior midfielder Kate Harriman, leads the NAC in with nine on 18 shots. The Eagles' junior forward Addi Laslie is also lethal on the attack, registering five goals this season, including a hat-trick against SUNY Potsdam. Senior forward Natalie Aviolla leads the NAC in assists with eight, including five in the 6-3 win over SUNY Potsdam. Junior goalkeeper Madison Weigler is 3-2 this season and has registered 18 total saves against 38 shots, for a .621 save percentage and 2.20 goals against average.
