BOSTON, MA (November 6, 2024) – Following the conclusion of the 2024 Little East Conference regular season, the UMass Boston women's soccer team (11-3-5, 6-1-1 LEC) will host the LEC semi-finals as the two-seed against the third-seeded Western Connecticut Wolves (10-5-5, 4-1-4 LEC) on Thursday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m.
Round One:
- In round one, the Wolves blew by the Plymouth State Panthers. In the opening half, the Wolves capitalized from two different goal-scorers, Olivia Kotsaftis and Sophia Onek. In the second half, the Wolves chained together three additional unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes to run up the tally to 5-0. The Wolves conceded a consolation goal, with the Panthers adding their only tally in the 57th minute.
Previously:
- The last meeting between the Wolves and the Beacons on October 19, saw an LEC showcase that ended in a 3-3 stalemate. First-year standout Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) provided an answer to each of WestConn's goals for her second career hat-trick. Schallmo provided seven shots on goal en route to her fifteenth goal of the season.
- Historically, the Beacons are 7-28-2 vs the Wolves. Their previous two matchups resulted in a 2-1 win on October 14, 2023, and the 3-3 draw on October 19 this year. In 37 matchups against the Wolves, the Beacons average .76 goals per game, and are 6-10-1 on their home turf.
This Season:
- In 19 games, the Beacons have outscored opponents 38-26 (2.00-1.37 goals per game). Schallmo currently leads the LEC in goals (16) and season points (39). She also leads the Beacs in assists with seven. Junior forward Andrea Rivera (San Juan, P.R.) trails her with six season goals, including a her first-career hat trick against Plymouth State on September 21. First-year Kathryn Brown (Somers, Conn.) is just behind Rivera with five season goals to go with one assist. The first-year triad in the midfield of Daniella Celotto (Prospect, Conn.), Lucinda Cotter (North Easton, Mass.), and Devan Booth (Manchester, N.H.) have been active in the middle, combining for nine of the 23 total assists for UMass Boston this year. The goalkeeping duties have been shared between senior Isabella O'Connell, the reigning LEC Goalkeeper of the Week, has seen 11 games and started in seven of them. O'Connell has seen 116 shots, allowed 10 goals (1.13 GAA), and registered 58 saves (.853 SV%) for a 4-2-3 overall record including four total shutouts. She shares responsibilities between the posts with junior Julia Cote (Baldwinville, Mass.). In 12 starts, Cote is 7-1-2 with 51 saves (.761 SV%) and three total shutouts. Against 124 shots she has allowed 16 goals (1.58 GAA).
