BOSTON, MA (November 21, 2024) – The Beacons' women's basketball team will hit the road towards the Big Apple this weekend (November 24-25) for the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament, featuring Vermont State University (VTSU) Lyndon, Saint Elizabeth University, Hunter College, and your UMass Boston Beacons. The Beacons will face Saint Elizabeth University in Round One on Friday, November 22, at 5:00 p.m from the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, New York. Depending on Friday's result, the Beacons will play in either a consolation game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m, or a championship game at 3:00 p.m.
Previously:
- The Beacons and Saint Elizabeth University have only faced each other once in program history. In 2008, the Beacons hosted the Eagles in Boston, and sent them packing with a 54-41 victory.
This Season:
- This season, the Beacons have started 0-3, with their closest effort against Curry College (60-69) on Saturday, November 16. So far, they are averaging 46.3 points per game (PPG), with junior forward Sabanna Berrios (Providence, R.I.) leading the charge with 11.3 PPG. On the glass, the Beacons average 30.7 rebounds per game (RPG), led by Berrios and junior captain Sibayla Jensen (Portland, Ore.), with 5.0 RPG each. Junior guard Tatiannah Fevry (Dracut, Mass.) anchors the defense around the perimeter and in transition, as the scrappy guard forces three steals per game (SPG), a team-high, followed by Jensen with 2.0 SPG. Jensen leads the team in three-point shooting, averaging 40% from beyond the arc. First-year forward Ashleigh Lagor (Millbury, Mass.) has been a two-way centerpiece through her first three games as a Beacon. She is averaging 10.7 PPG from the post and three rebounds per game.
- Saint Elizabeth University averages 61 PPG in four games and allows 61.5 by opponents. As a team, they are shooting 31% from the field and 27% from three-point range. On the glass, they rake in 45.5 RPG and average 12.3 assists per game. Offensive production goes through the Eagles' senior guard, Yasminah White, who averages a team-high in 12.8 PPG, to go along with 7.0 RPG, 3.0 APG, and 2.3 SPG. With White leading the charge, two other Eagles flirt with 10 PPG, senior guard Ashley Phillip (11.0 PPG) and sophomore guard Mya Davis (9.8 PPG), for an established scoring core. Phillip and White average 4.9 SPG together. Senior forward Paige Neal leads the charge on the backboard, with 11.0 RPG to pair with 9.0 PPG.
