Boston, MA (October 8, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's soccer team will travel to Biddeford, Maine, on Wednesday, as they hit the road for a non-conference matchup against the Nor'easters of the University of New England.
Previously:
- The University of New England and the Beacons have a short history dating back to 2009 when the first meeting saw UNE win 3-1 on their home turf. Since then, the Beacons have won the past two meetings, 1-0 in 2012 and 4-0 in 2013. The Beacs are 1-1 on the road against UNE, and average two goals a game vs the Nor'easters.
This Season:
- The Beacons have gone unbeaten through their previous six, including five victories. Their sole season loss came from the Roger Williams Hawks, 1-0 on the road. Overall, the Beacs are 8-1-3 (3-0 Little East Conference) this season, with their most significant wins coming against LEC opponents Plymouth State (8-3), and UMass Dartmouth (3-0). The primary offensive option for the Beacons' attack is first-year Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.). Through nine games played, Schallmo leads the LEC in points (26), assists (6), and goals (10). Her previous two games played have resulted in her first career hat-trick and her third consecutive conference weekly recognition. Including the offensive efficiency, the Beacons' defense has been a wall all season. They have held opponents to an average of one goal a game, an opponent shot percentage of 0.081, and an opponent's shots per game average of 12.4. The primary netminder for the Beacons is junior Julia Cote (Baldwinville, Mass.). Cote has gone an undefeated 6-0-2 through eight games played. Against 93 shots faced, Cote has registered 40 saves for a .816 save percentage. She's allowed just nine goals for a goals-against average of 1.11.
- The Nor'easters are 8-4 (2-1 Coastal New England Conference) thus far, with their most significant victories coming against Suffolk (4-0), Salve Regina (3-0), Westfield State (5-1), and Saint Joesph's Maine (5-0). Their losses came from Maine Maritime (2-3), the University of Southern Maine (3-4), Bates (5-0), and Western New England (1-0). The primary option between the posts for UNE is junior Anna Flaherty, who has started every game this season. Against 117 shots faced, Flaherty has registered 58 saves for 1.5 goals against average, and a .773 save percentage. Flaherty has allowed 17 goals through her 12 starts. The Nor'easters have a deadly trio responsible for over half the team's production. Senior forward Tori Keyes is the primary goal-scorer with 13 goals in 12 games, to go with seven assists. She recently scored a hat-trick against Suffolk on September 28. Senior midfielder Lizzie Frattaroli has finished just as many as she has serviced, as she has registered six goals and six assists for 18 season points. Frattaroli and Keyes have combined for three game-winning goals. Junior midfielder Karley Belisle has scored thrice in the season but is the acting maestro in the midfield, providing nine assists, including three against Westfield State.
