BOSTON, MA (October 15, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's soccer team will travel north to Gorham, Maine, on Wednesday for a Little East Conference matchup against the University of Southern Maine Huskies at 6:00 p.m.
Previously:
- The first matchup between the two sides saw the Huskies overcome the Beacons 4-0 in Gorham, Maine. Since then, the Beacons have won 13 games, lost 16, and drew once. The Beacons average 1.37 goals against the Huskies and have scored 41 times against USM in program history. The last meeting saw the Huskies put the Beacons down 3-0 in the LEC Semifinals in 2023. The Beacons went undefeated against the Huskies from 2008 to 2017, winning 11 matchups in a row during the stretch. The Beacs' most significant margin of victory came in 2021, when UMass Boston defeated USM 4-0 from Boston, MA.
This Season:
- The Beacons have their sights set on the LEC Regular Season Championship, sitting in second place among the LEC standings currently. Through 14 games, UMass Boston has gone 9-2-3 (4-0 LEC.) with notable wins coming against Plymouth State (8-3), Keene State (4-1), and UMass Dartmouth (3-0). Junior goalkeeper Julia Cote (Baldwinville, Mass.) remains the primary option between the pipes for UMass Boston. Cote, in 10 games started, has accrued 40 saves against 104 shots for a .800 save percentage while allowing just 10 goals thus far. Cote remains an undefeated 7-0-2. First-year forward Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) has shouldered the offense thus far. The true freshman has scored 12 goals and provided six assists through 11 games played for 30 season points. Schallmo currently leads the LEC in goals and points, providing a path for the Beacons to follow towards post-season success. First-year Kathryn Brown (Somers, Conn.) and junior Andrea Rivera (San Juan, P.R.) have also been spotlights on the offensive end, with both forwards registering five goals this season.
- The Huskies currently stand atop the LEC standings with a 9-2-2 (4-0 LEC.) cumulative record. With the Huskies maintaining a 4-2-1 record at home, the Beacons face their most formidable challenge of the season. Senior goalkeeper Hunter Stonebraker takes primary keeper duties with a team-high ten starts this season. This season, Stonebraker has accumulated 24 saves against 32 shots (.857 save percentage) and has allowed four goals en route to a 5-1-2 record. Graduate forward Catriona Gould leads the Huskies in points this season with 11 goals and eight assists. Gould stands just one goal behind Schallmo for the conference-leading goal-scoring spot. Junior forward Riley Reitchel and senior midfielder Julia McKenna also provide offensive outlets for the Huskies, with both players providing seven goals.
