Box Score DANBURY, Conn. – UMass Boston Women's Tennis took care of business in their first match of the season against Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut State University at Westside Tennis Courts on Saturday. The Beacons did not allow the Wolves to score a point in seven sets throughout the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
All six matches for the Beacons in the singles were won in 2-0 fashion, with UMass Boston holding WestConn players to a five set in which they were unable to record a point. Two of the three doubles matches were won 8-0 by the Beacons with the third head-to-head being won by UMass Boston, 8-3.

Lia Vassiliadis all swept their singles matches, earning their first singles wins of the 2022-23 season.
In the doubles, it was Chan and Semerly winning 8-0, junior Meghan Carney and Shaikh winning 8-0, and then Vassiliadis and Albano teaming up for the 8-3 victory to finish off the 9-0 sweep for the Beacons.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior transfer Yana Semerly earned her first wins in a Beacon uniform with the 2-0 win over sophomore Melanie Grasso (6-0, 6-1) and teaming up with Chan for the 8-0 doubles victory
- Sophomore transfer Ayonna Stuppard notched her first win as well in a Beacon uniform with her 2-0 victory over senior Meghan Lorenzen (6-2, 6-0)
- Freshman Ayra Shaikh got her first collegiate win in women's tennis with her 2-0 win over senior Julia Misner (6-0, 6-1)
- Lia Vassiliadis improved to 23-5 in her Beacon career in singles matches and 22-7 in doubles matches
WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons come home for their 2022-23 home opener against Regis College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 PM to begin their first of three consecutive home matches. UMass Boston has won 15 consecutive matches at BC High School Tennis Courts dating back to 2019.
