BRIGHTON, MA (April 3, 2026) -- The UMass Boston women's tennis team defeated Simmons 5–2 on Friday afternoon in its first match of the spring season, and the first since late October 2025.
The Beacons dropped the doubles point but swept back with five singles wins to secure the match.
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, Ind.) was the standout of the day, winning at No. 1 doubles alongside Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) and following it up with a straight-sets victory at No. 1 singles over Masha Shutts, 6–4, 6–2. Malone added a singles win of her own at No. 3, 6–2, 7–6.
Maya Rubenstein (Pittsburgh, Penn.) went three sets at No. 4 to earn her win, 6–2, 7–6, 7–1, while Shreya Saravana Rakshana (Bengaluru, Ind.) was the most efficient player on the court, taking No. 5 singles 6–2, 6–1. Kathy Roqueza (Holyoke, Mass.) closed out the scoring at No. 6, 6–2, 6–4.
Simmons' points came via the doubles courts at No. 2 and No. 3.
UMass Boston women's tennis returns to play on Tuesday, April 7 against the Western New England Golden Bears in Springfield, Mass.
