Beacons Battle Through Nail-Biting 4-3 Thriller Over Emerson

BOSTON, MA (April 10, 2026) -- The UMass Boston women's tennis team defeated the Emerson College Lions, 4-3 in a thrilling match lasting four and a half hours from the Beacons' home courts to improve to 3-0 in the spring.

To start the day in doubles, the doubles No.2 pair of Maya Rubenstein (Pittsburgh, Penn.) and Shreya Saravana Rakshana (Bengaluru, India.) defeated Kendi Bispham and Abigail Miner, 6-2. Following shortly, number one doubles, Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India.) and Tatiana Malone (South dennis, Mass.) defeated Teah Login and Alisa Pimenova, 6-4 securing the doubles point for the Beacons. At number three doubles, Kaya-Lilliana Rutkowski (Berlin, Conn.) and Karina Khalsa (South Yarmouth, Mass.) came up just short, losing to Jayden Beverly and Anna Matsuura, 6-7.

In singles play, number 1 singles, Patel defeated Login, 6-3, 6-3 to secure the second point for the Beacons. Sandra Watson (West Palm beach, Fla.) at number two singles and Saravana Rakshana at number five singles lost their matches, while Malone at number three singles retired her match. At number four singles, Rubenstein defeated Pimenova, 1-6, 6-2, 3-6 to make the overall score between the Beacs and the Lions, 3-3. Freshman Kathy Roqueza (Holyoke, Mass.) at number six singles battled through a nail-biting three-setter against Carlson Jones to clinch the win for the Beacons.

The women are back in action for the Spring season finale on April 24th against Curry College in Milton, MA.
