BOSTON, Mass. – Junior transfer forward
Alexah Potter's 16-point first half and 18-point performance overall on 9-of-18 shooting helped spur UMass Boston Women's Basketball to a dominant 71-38 victory over Eastern Nazarene College on New Year's Eve at home inside the Clark Athletic Center coming out of the two-week winter break.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With just eight players dressing, Eastern Nazarene jumped out to a 7-0 lead on UMass Boston just over halfway through the opening quarter. The Beacons began the game 0-for-9 from the field before a layup from freshman guard
Tatiannah Fevry snapped the scoreless drought. Despite the rough shooting start, UMass Boston closed the first half making five of their final nine shots to knot the game up at 11 after the first.
A big second quarter for UMass Boston to take full control of the contest as the sharpshooting for the Beacons came to life, going 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the floor while forcing six Lion turnovers. UMass Boston would outscore Eastern Nazarene, 28-6, in the second quarter which included a 19-2 run to close out the frame as well as all 16 of Potter's first half points as the Beacons rolled into halftime with a commanding 39-17 lead.
Both sides would settle down in the third, posting similar numbers as the first quarter and combining for 19 points with UMass Boston scoring 10 of those points to add one point to their lead after a buzzer-beater from the free throw line by sophomore forward

Meg Dixon recorded the other eight Beacon points of the quarter as both teams shot just over 30% from the floor and missed a combined seven attempts from three-point range.
UMass Boston would lead by as many as 33 points, 71-38, the final score of the game, in the fourth quarter after back-to-back three-pointers from senior forward
Paige Ollivierre with under two minutes to go in the game and a two from junior guard
Emily Garufi in the closing moments helped all nine Beacon players who saw game action finish with points.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Meg Dixon finished the game with her fourth double-double of the season, leading the team in scoring with 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting and collecting 13 rebounds
- Tatiannah Fevry finished with a career-high 10 points and six rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting off the bench for the Beacons in 24 minutes
- The Beacons forced 27 turnovers against the Lions, resulting in a total of 30 points for UMass Boston while Eastern Nazarene's 18 forced turnovers resulted in just eight points for them
- UMass Boston held a 40-22 advantage over Eastern Nazarene in paint points
- This was the first matchup between the two teams since November 16th, 2011, and first home win for the Beacons against the Lions since November 15th, 2008
WHO'S NEXT
UMass Boston will prepare for their first of 13 Little East Conference games which will take them to the end of the regular season with a matchup against Castleton University scheduled for Wednesday evening on the road at 5:00 PM. Last season, the Beacons split their two games against the Spartans, winning at home, 78-55, before falling on the road, 53-32.
