Box Score MILTON, Mass.—In their first non-conference match in over two years, UMass Boston women's tennis swept Curry College 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Sophomore 
Meagan Carney (Arlington, Mass.) and junior 
Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) each went 2-0, to lead the Beacons past the Colonels. 
 
Curry only had five players available to play in the match, so UMass Boston started with a 2-0 lead. 
 
The Beacons opened doubles with a dominant win at second doubles. Freshman 
Elena Albano (Harverhill, Mass.) teamed up with Vassiliadis for an 8-2 victory. 
 
At number one doubles, UMass Boston's pair of sophomore 
Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and Carney fell behind 6-3 early, only to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreaker, the Beacons swamped Curry's Alexandra Borkov and Samantha Ferrara 7-2 to win 8-7 (7-2). 
 
UMass Boston continued to carry their momentum into singles play. 
 
Senior captain 
Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) gave the Beacons a 5-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five singles. 
 
Vassiliadis made it 6-0 in favor of the visitors moments later, when she defeated Cayla Osowski 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles. 
 
In the final match to finish, Carney knocked off Ferrera 6-3, 6-0 at second-flight singles. 
 
The final two matches of the afternoon were suspended due to rain. 
 
At third singles, Albano was leading Grace Coopee 6-0, 5-3 and had match point when the match was suspended. 
 
Curry's Borkov was leading Chan 6-4, 5-0 at number one singles when play was concluded. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
	- Thursday's match was the first non-conference contest for the program in 735 days. 
 
	- Vassiliadis was making her season debut for the Beacons. She improved her career record to 30-4 in the match. 
 
	- With the win, UMass Boston improved to 3-4 all-time against Curry College. The Beacons have won three-straight over the Colonels. 
 
	- Carney and Chan stayed perfect on the season in the match. Carney is now 6-0, while Chan sits at 5-0. Moriarty is 3-0 in singles matches.
