Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.),
Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) and
Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) all earned two wins to help the Beacons get back to .500.
UMass Boston jumped out to a strong start with wins at second and third doubles.
Albano and Vassiliadis trounced Salem's pairing of Samantha Tenney and Abbie Laliberte 8-2 at number two doubles.
Moriarty and
Tanya Kibiy (Rockville, Md.) combined for an 8-3 victory at third doubles.
In the tightest match, Salem's Anastasia Startseva and Alexandria Floyd barely held off
Meagan Carney (Arlington, Mass.) and
Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) 8-6 at first doubles.
With the Beacons leading 2-1 after doubles, UMass Boston quickly secured the victory with the first four points in singles play.
Vassiliadis opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Laliberte at fourth singles.
Moriarty extended the Beacons advantage to 4-1 when she blanked Miah Reyes 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.
Chan clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Alexandria Floyd at second singles.
In the Beacons final win of the day, Albano knocked off Tenney 6-1, 6-3 at third-flight singles.
Salem cut the deficit to 6-2 when Startseva defeated Carney 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles.
In the final match of the day, Cassie Liu led
Skylar Robles (Spokane, Wash.) 6-4, 4-1 at sixth singles, before Robles was forced to retire due to an injury.
BY THE NUMBERS
- With her victory at fourth singles, Vassiliadis moved into a tie for 10th-place in program history in career singles wins (17).
- Kibiy earned her first collegiate victory with the win at third doubles.
- With the win, UMass Boston has won five of the past six meetings against the Vikings.
