BOSTON, Mass. – With the 2020 season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, D3Baseball.com and Perfect Game have announced their final national polls of the year.
The Beacons, who posted a 3-1 record before the NCAA cancelled all winter and spring championships, closed out the shortened campaign ranked 14th on D3Baseball.com/ABCA poll, and 5th on the Perfect Game poll.
UMass Boston was one of the few New England teams to get in multiple games on their home field. The Beacons were scheduled to fly to Florida for the annual RussMatt Invitational, but their trip was cancelled due to the growing spread of coronavirus.
The Beacons were hitting a combined .285 through their first four games. On the mound, UMB's pitching staff was already making waves in the New England region. They posted a 4.74 ERA and had a combined 53 strikeouts. They were ranked fifth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.6.
Per the NCAA Division III Administrative Committee, they waived all requirements for sports sponsorship for the spring season. It also granted an additional season/semester of eligibility for student-athletes participating in spring sports.
