Box Score DANBURY, Conn.—UMass Boston women's basketball used a 19-0 run to take control in the first quarter and cruised to a 79-58 conference win over host Western Connecticut State University on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jalani Jackson (Brockton, Mass.) led three Beacons in double-figures, to help UMass Boston snap their season-high, three-game losing streak.
Jackson posted a game-high 20 points on 6-14 shooting. She also added three assists and three steals in the win.
Fellow junior Tahjai Mazyck (Hamden, Conn.) tacked on 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Geanna Williams (Cromwell, Conn.) finished with 11 points on 5-8 shooting and recorded six rebounds.
Off the bench, Jamie Staples (Amherst, Mass.) paced the group with eight points on 2-5 shooting from distance. Freshman Kaylee Haynes (Bridgewater, Mass.) chipped in six points, five rebounds, two steals and a career-high seven assists.
Western Connecticut freshman Ashley Rilley led the hosts with 13 points. Katelyn Fanning registered nine points and seven rebounds and Lola Herman led all players with her eight assists.
UMass Boston took control of the game with a 19-0 run early in the first quarter. After Western Connecticut took a 2-0 lead on a Susan Almeida jumper, the Beacons scored the next 19 points over a 3:21 span.
Jackson tied the game with a pair of free throws and Joie Grassi (Plymouth, Mass.) followed with a go-ahead 3-pointer. Williams followed with a jumper and a 3-pointer to make it 10-2. Haynes and Rachel Tutkus (Braintree, Mass.) added back-to-back 3-pointers and Staples closed out the flurry with a three of her own with 4:34 to go in the quarter.
The Beacons went into the second quarter leading 26-11 and put the game away with an 18-8 stanza.
After the two teams were even through the first eight minutes of the quarter, UMass Boston closed the half on a 9-0 run.
Haynes converted a 3-point play with 1:14 to go in the quarter and Mazyck followed with a 3-pointer. On the final possession of the half, Mazyck found Jackson for a three with five seconds before the half ended.
Western managed to cut the deficit to 17 late in the third quarter, but that would be as close they would get in the second half.
BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston shot 45.3 percent (29-64) from the field, 47.8 percent (11-23) from distance and 76.9 percent (10-13) from the free throw line.
- Jackson has now recorded 20 or more points eight times this season, including each of the past two games.
- The Beacons tied their season-high for made 3-pointers (11) and for 3-point field goal percentage (47.8). UMass Boston went 11-23 from distance in both games this year against the Colonials.
- With the win, UMass Boston has recorded six-straight wins over the Colonials and improved to 19-40 all-time against Western Connecticut.
- This year's team is now tied for third in program history with their 17 wins in a single-season. The Beacons only trail the 2017-18 team (25-4) and the 2014-15 team (19-9).
- 10 different Beacons scored in the victory and 13 players appeared in the contest.

UMass Boston will return home on Wednesday to host rival UMass Dartmouth at 5:30 p.m. The Beacons will honor their four seniors prior to the contest.
