Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.—UMass Boston women's basketball used a 15-3 second-quarter run to take control and held on late, for a 73-67 win over host Clark University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Juniors Tahjai Mazyck (Hamden, Conn.) and Jalani Jackson (Brockton, Mass.) each recorded 17 points, to help UMass Boston cap off a perfect 3-0 week.
Mazyck finished 8-14 from the field and chipped in four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Jackson knocked down four 3-pointers and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Joie Grassi (Plymouth, Mass.) posted a line of nine points, five assists and four rebounds.
The Beacons bench was very active throughout the contest. Nine players played five or more minutes and the group combined for 25 points. Geanna Williams (Cromwell, Conn.) paced the bench unit with eight points and five rebounds.
Clark sophomore Hallie Johnson paced the Cougars with 19 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Favaloro chipped in 18 points and Ginny Benbow tacked on 16 points off the bench.
Very little separated the teams through the first 12 minutes, with Clark holding the largest lead at five points, twice during the first quarter.
With Clark holding a 19-17 advantage, UMass Boston went on a 15-3 run over a 3:15 span to take control of the game for good.
Jackson opened the flurry with a layup to tie the game and Williams hit a layup to give the Beacons the lead at 7:13. After Clark tied the game with a layup, Jamie Staples (Amherst, Mass.) gave the Beacons the lead for good with a 3-pointer. Mazyck hit a layup to extend the advantage and the Jackson and Grassi hit threes on back-to-back possessions to give the Beacons a 32-22 edge with 4:25 to go in the half.
The Beacons took a 40-32 edge into halftime and never let Clark closer than six in the third quarter.
After extending their lead to as many as 16 midway through the fourth, UMass Boston found themselves fighting to stave off Clark in the final minutes.
Clark went on a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to 72-65 with 1:53 to go, but the Beacons forced turnovers on each of the next three possessions to secure the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston shot 43.5 percent (30-69) from the field, 34.4 percent (11-32) from distance and 40.0 percent (2-5) from the free throw line.
- Grassi moved into a tie for seventh in program history in career points with her nine points. Her 1,011 points are tied with Jamila Gales ('03) for seventh.
- The Beacons tied their season-high with 11 made 3-pointers. UMass Boston also hit 11 on Tuesday night against Western Connecticut State University.
- With the win, UMass Boston improves to 3-2 all-time against the Cougars. The Beacons have won back-to-back games against Clark for the first time.
- UMass Boston closes out non-conference play with a perfect 9-0 record.
- 10 different Beacons scored in the victory.
