Box Score

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Despite a hat trick from senior Ned Parker (Stafford, Va.), lacrosse could not complete a second half comeback as Lycoming College edged the Beacons 13-9 Friday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

UMass Boston (1-5)
Lycoming College (2-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Parker's hat trick nearly sparked the Beacons rally over the final two quarters, as the Beacons looked to record a solid non-conference win.

Lycoming ultimately used a seven goal first quarter to gain the early lead and momentum.  The Beacons managed just three goals, while the Warriors added two more scores in the second to go into the halftime break leading 9-3.

After the break, the two teams matched goals in the third as Lycoming held a 12-6 lead with only 15 minutes left in regulation.  The Beacons defense limited the Warriors to just one goal in the final frame, while UMB's attack fired-off three tallies to cut the deficit to just four.  They unfortunately could not complete the rally as they dropped their second straight game.

Joe Meyers (Carmel, N.Y.) finished second on the team with two goals.  As a team the Beacons defense caused a season-high 14 turnovers.  Jack Dobrzynski (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Chris Palin (West Bridgewater, Mass.) each collected a team-high four ground balls.  Tom Redmond (Scituate, Mass.) led the Beacons face-off guys with five wins.

Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.) made 13 stops in the loss, as he faced a combined 26 shots on goal.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Friday's contest marked the first-ever meeting between the Beacons and Lycoming College
  • UMB finished 18-for-22 on clear attempts, and were 4-for-5 on man-up attempts
  • The Beacons held a 50-44 advantage in total shots, but Lycoming held a 33-32 advantage in ground balls

WHO'S NEXT

The Beacons will travel to Trinity College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
