Beacons Fall to Wooster in Texas Neutral Site Clash

Box Score

**Georgetown, Texas (March 15, 2026)** – The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss, falling 17-10 to Wooster in a neutral site game at Southwestern University. The Beacons, now 2-3, could not recover from a difficult opening half, despite improved play in the second half and a strong outing from Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.).

How It Happened

Wooster set the tone from the opening whistle, scoring four goals in the first six minutes and building an 8-3 lead after the first quarter. The Beacons had difficulty containing Jack Holub (Wooster, Ohio), who tallied three first-quarter goals as part of a dominant day. Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) and Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) tried to provide a spark on offense, but UMass Boston's early turnovers and missed clears allowed the Fighting Scots to control possession and tempo.

The struggles continued for the Beacons in the second quarter as Wooster extended the lead to 12-4 by halftime. Defensive breakdowns and a lack of execution on clears allowed the Fighting Scots to capitalize on second-chance opportunities. Despite their efforts, UMass Boston was unable to mount consistent offense or slow Wooster's duo of Holub and Lane Kellogg (Wooster, Ohio), who combined for 14 goals.

After halftime, the Beacons made adjustments and generated a stronger third quarter, outscoring Wooster 4-3. Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, Conn.) and Brayden MacLean (Stow, Mass.) each found the back of the net, while Holden Kuzniar (Georgetown, Mass.) anchored the defensive effort with five caused turnovers. The Beacons cut into the deficit, but Wooster responded to keep the margin comfortable.

UMass Boston continued to compete in the fourth quarter, with Matt Hutchings adding to his five-goal total and Cole Allan (Falmouth, Maine) contributing an assist. However, Holub's ninth goal late in the contest sealed the 17-10 result, underscoring the challenge of overcoming a lopsided first half. Despite matching Wooster in faceoffs and making some defensive adjustments, the Beacons' early mistakes proved costly.
