Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Beacons Fall to No. 5 Babson in Non-Conference Tilt

BOSTON, Mass. (March 31, 2026) — The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team (4-5, 1-1 Little East Confernece) faced a formidable non-conference opponent Tuesday, falling 18-5 to the fifth-ranked Babson College Beavers (10-1, 3-0 New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference) at James Cotter Field.

How It Happened

Babson established control early, but UMass Boston fought back to tie the game 2-2 midway through the first quarter on a pair of goals from senior attacker Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, NY). His second goal of the quarter leveled the score at two apiece. The Beavers responded decisively, scoring the next 10 goals of the game to build a commanding lead.

The visitors took a 7-2 advantage into the second quarter and held the Beacons scoreless in the period, extending their lead to 12-2 by halftime.

The Beacons showed resilience in the second half, with goals from sophomore Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) and junior Jaden Cronin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) in the third quarter. Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, Conn.) added a goal of his own in the fourth, but the early deficit proved insurmountable as Babson secured the victory.

Inside the Box Score

Hutchings and Hilgert paced the Beacons' offense with three points each.
Hutchings finished with two goals and one assist, while Hilgert recorded one goal and a team-high two assists.
On the defensive end, senior Holden Kuzniar (Georgetown, Mass.) and sophomore Hank Alessandro each caused three turnovers, with Alessandro also leading the team with five ground balls.
The Beacons utilized three goalkeepers, with starter James Boldy (Wrentham, Mass.) making eight saves. Matt Corvi (Franklin, Mass.) added five saves and Dominic Chalifour (Dover, NH) made one.
