HOW IT HAPPENED

Looking to bounce back from Wednesday's tough loss to nationally-ranked Webster College, the Beacons got one of their best pitching performances of the young season.  Burgos, went six complete and held W&J to just one hit during that span.

The senior from Hyde Park, struckout six and allowed just two walks to earn his first win of the season.  His strong performance lifted the Beacons bullpen which featured just two pitchers in the win.  Matt Demma (Worcester, Mass.) took over for Burgos in the seventh, and went one complete inning where he had a pair of strikeouts.

Ben Gottesman (Acton, Mass.) closed out the win for the Beacons surrendering just one hit, while striking out three in two innings of work.

At the plate, the Beacons recorded a season-high 12 hits and six doubles.  Huegi recorded three of the Beacons six doubles, which marked a career-best for the senior infielder.  Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.), Nico Kydes (Stamford, Conn.), and Ryan Leung (Brookline, Mass.) also picked-up doubles in the win, while Danny Brown recorded his first triple of 2019.

The Beacons struck first in Thursday's contest as they took a slim 1-0 lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI double by Leung.  Burgos would continue to shut down the President's bats over the next three innings to keep his team's lead intact.

In the fifth UMB gained some breathing room with a two-run single by Anthony Cecere (Wakefield, Mass.).  The Beacons then blew the game wide open in the sixth as they tacked on five runs to make it an 8-0 affair.  Another run in the seventh all but secured the Beacons victory Kydes singled up the middle to score Herzog.

W&J ended the Beacons shutout bid in the eight, but was quickly counter by a sac-fly by Kyle Brezinski (Rochester, Mass.) in the ninth which plated Brown to securing the nine-run victory.
