AUBURNDALE, Fla. – A 3-for-4 day by Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.), which included the game winning RBI double in the seventh inning carried the ninth/18th ranked Beacons to a huge win over 17th ranked Keystone College Monday afternoon Lake Myrtle Field.

UMass Boston (2-3)
Keystone College (2-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tied 2-2 with one out in the seventh inning, Herzog ripped a double to right field plating Ryan McLoud (Plymouth, Mass.), to give the Beacons the huge win over a nationally-ranked opponent.  All afternoon, the Beacons held a slim lead over the Giants as they grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the opening inning.

Keystone cut the Beacons lead to one in the fourth, and then tied the game in the seventh on an RBI groundout.

In the first inning, Herzog drove in both runs in the frame on a two-run single which scored Brandon Cellucci (Wynantskill, N.Y.) and Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.).

Ryan Collins (Peabody, Mass.)  had the only other extra base hit for the Beacons, a double in the second inning.

Ben Gottesman (Acton, Mass.) collected the win after going just one inning of work.  Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) earned the save, his first of the season, after going two scoreless innings in which he had three strikeouts.  Dylan Fashempour (Redlands, Calif.) made his first start for the Beacons and lasted four complete innings.  He allowed just one run on two hits and had five strikeouts.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • In total the Beacons pitching staff combined for a season-high 11 strikeouts
  • Monday's contest marked the first-ever meeting between the Beacons and Keystone
  • Herzog's three hits was a season-high or the senior outfielder
