HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Pointers tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Stevens Point collected their first win of the 2017 season on a single to right center from Angel Ramirez.  Thursday's loss went to Adrian Russo, his first of the year, after allowing the game-winning run on three hits.  For the Pointers, Heinrich Walder picked-up the W after closing out the top half of the 10th.

UMass Boston once again had to come-from-behind in the early innings, as Stevens Point scored a pair of runs in the second.  The Beacons did respond quickly as they tacked on three runs in the top half of the third inning.  Dan Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) plated Josh Lopez (New London, Conn.) to give UMB their first run of the day.  A Pointers error, which allowed Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) to reach also scored Mantoni and Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) to give UMB a 3-2 lead.

The Pointers then evened the score at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning.  A Mantoni RBI double in the fifth, and a Lopez RBI single in the sixth gave the Beacons their than two-run lead.  Just like their first game today, the Beacons saw their lead slip away in the late innings, as John Popham tied the game on a two-run single.

Bryan Kaufman (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned the no-decision after going six complete innings.  During that stretch he allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits.  He also had three strikeouts and did not surrender a walk.
