UMass Boston 0, #16 SUNY Oswego 4

UMass Boston (4-2)
SUNY Oswego (9-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Zywicki collected the win after allowing all six Beacons hits over 5.2 innings.  Donnelly earned the save, his second of the year, as he held the Beacons hitless over the final 3.1.

The Lakers got on the board in the top of the first inning, on a John Barnes RBI single.  They then made it a 2-0 ball game in the fourth as Alex Brown hit a deep fly ball to center, which allowed Myles Kutscher to score on the sacrifice.

SUNY Oswego tacked on their final two runs, both unearned, in the top of the ninth on a fielding error by the Beacons.

Even though they were held to just the six hits, the Beacons absolutely had their chances to get on the board.  Their best opportunity came in the sixth inning when they had bases loaded with two outs on the scoreboard.  After a pair of flyouts to start the inning, Dave Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) reached on a single down the left field line.  Dan Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) would follow suit with a single of his own to put runners on first and second.

Fellow senior Anthony Searles (Shelton, Conn.) would then loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch.  With the bases now loaded, and the Beacons threatening, the Lakers handed the ball over to Donnelly.  Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) would work the count full, but Donnelly would get his team out of the inning on a two-seam fastball that brushed the inside corner for the called third strike.

Murphy produced the lone extra base hit for the Beacons, a double to left center in the fourth inning.  Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.) finished 2-for-4 for the Beacons with a pair of singles.

On the hill, Matt Tulley (Lowell, Mass.) registered his first start as a Beacon and went five complete innings.  He allowed two runs, both earned, on five hits, but did manage to strikeout five, while walking four.  Chris Munro (Marshfield, Mass.) posted three strikeouts in an inning of relief.
