Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.—After a scoreless opening 28 minutes, #8/9 UMass Boston erupted for five goals over the final 32 minutes, to cruise to a 5-0 win Saturday afternoon at the Beacons Ice Arena.

THE BASICS

#8/9 UMass Boston 5, University of New England 0

(UMass Boston 16-3-2, New England Hockey Conference 12-1-1)

(U. of New England 11-8-2, New England Hockey Conference 7-6-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

UMass Boston senior goalie Billy Faust (Alta Loma, Calif.) posted his second-collegiate shutout and first of the year, by making 27 saves, to lead UMass Boston to their 14th-straight win over the University of New England. The senior goalie has been phenomenal over his past two starts, as he's allowed just one goal on 58 shots.

The Beacons offense saw 10 players record at least one point and five players finish with two, as the Beacons' came alive midway through the second period.

Freshman Garrison Sanipass (Northbrook, Ill.) and David MacGregor (Asuza, Calif.) each finished with a goal and an assist, while Jeremy Finger (Orlando, Fla.), Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) and Alex Demchuk (Calgary, Alberta) all finished with two assists in the win.

Seniors Mike Miller (Wrentham, Mass.), Frankie DeAugustine (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Drew Gannon (Plano, Texas) also found the back of the net for UMass Boston. The Beacons have now scored five goals in three-straight games.

University of New England goalie Connor Maloney made 49 saves on 54 shots in the loss.

Saturday's contest marked the Beacons' "Pink The Rink" game, as they raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Miller opened the scoring at 8:22 of the second period with a backhand tip off a rebound. Maloney stopped Demchuk's initial shot, but the rebound fell to Miller on the far side and he softly flicked it just over a diving Maloney.

The Beacons second goal came in similar fashion, as Sanipass scored off a rebound in front. Maloney did well to stop Matt Lemire's (Townsend, Mass.) shot from the far side, but the rebound fell just outside the crease and Sanipass pushed it into a wide-open far side of the net at 12:47.

UMass Boston tacked on a third goal just before the end of the second, off a top-shelf snipe from Gannon. Senior Andrew Crawford (Medford, Mass.) made a lunging effort to keep the puck in the zone and it went right to Gannon in the slot, who turned and ripped a shot off Maloney's glove and off the underside of the bar with 1:07 to go in the period.

MacGregor kept the barrage going early in the third, as he poked home a loose puck off a scramble in front. Demchuk and Finger picked up assists on the marker at 3:02 of the period.

UMass Boston's top power-play unit made it 5-0 at 6:31, when DeAugustine's forehand from in close just beat Maloney stickside. Sanipass and Larkin were each credited with assists.
