Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – A pair of offensive runs would carry the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth past lacrosse as the Beacons 2015 season came to an end following a 15-2 Little East Conference loss Friday evening at Cressy Field.
With the loss, the Beacons end the year with an overall record of 5-10, 1-6 in the conference. The Corsairs, who will be the fourth seed in this year's conference tournament, closed out the regular season with an 8-8 record, 4-3 in the LEC.
Registering each of the Beacons two goals was senior Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.), and Joseph Cunningham (Hudson, Mass.). For Delpha, he capped-off one of the most prolific careers in recent memory. Sitting sixth all-time in career points, the Walpole native hangs up his Beacons jersey, after recording 173 points, 105 goals, and 68 assists in a combined 66 games played.
The Corsairs jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first quarter, and added a sixth in the second before Delpha was able to end the scoring drought. The senior would score the marker on a man-up possession.
His goal would mark the final before the halftime break, but following the intermission, each team would record a goal to start off the third frame. Unfortunately, from there the Corsairs would take over scoring eight straight goals to seal the victory.
Between the pipes Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) and AJ Collette (West Springfield, Mass.) faced a total of 30 shots on goal by the Corsairs, and came-up with 15 stops respectively. On the night, UMD outshot the Beacons 43-15, and also held a 36-22 advantage in ground balls.
