HOW IT HAPPENED
In a rematch of last year's Little East Conference Tournament semifinals, Alexander scored the first and final goal, to help the Beacons snap a season-high five-game losing streak.
After going scoreless in the opening 16 games of her first season with the Beacons, the sophomore transfer opened the scoring at 20:11. Alexander sent an intended pass across the goalmouth and past Keene State goalie Kathryn Hoar for her first collegiate goal.
Keene State would need 35 minutes to tie it, but Patricia Norton (55:28) and Shannon Summers (66:05) scored in quick succession, to give the Owls a brief lead.
UMass Boston found the equalizer in the 83rd minute, off a mad scramble inside the six-yard box. Freshman Kate Leavitt (Plymouth, Mass.) sent a pass into the vicinity of Alexander and freshman Jaclyn O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) and Alexander tipped it in for a 2-2 tie at 82:14.
The Beacons held the better end of the chances in overtime, but Hoar came up with three of her five saves in the extra session.
With time winding down, the referee issued a yellow card to UMass Boston and sent off a Keene State coach, as neither side could break through.
Freshman goalie Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) had another tremendous game for the Beacons, as she stopped 11 of 13 shots. Fugiel has now stopped double-digit shots in two games in a row and four of her past five appearances.
