Box Score MEDFORD, Mass.—Mariah Harvey-Brown's header goal at 15:59 proved to be all the offense host Tufts University would need, as the Jumbos downed UMass Boston women's soccer 1-0 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.
THE BASICS
Tufts University 1, UMass Boston 0
(UMass Boston 4-11-1, Little East 3-2)
(Tufts University 6-5-2, NESCAC 4-3-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite 12 saves from freshman goalie Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.), UMass Boston saw their losing streak stretch to a season-high five games.
After a hot start for the Jumbos in which they fired off the first three shots of the game, Taylor Koscho sent a cross into the box for Harvey-Brown, who headed the shot just past Fugiel for a 1-0 lead at 15:59.
The Jumbos would continue to push the pace, only to be frustrated by Fugiel. Tufts finished one shot (27) and one shot on goal (13) shy of their season-highs. Fugiel also missed out on tying her season-high for saves by just one, as she finished with her fourth double-digit save game of the year.
Alexandria Levesque (Metheun, Mass.) provided the Beacons with their best look of the first half just before halftime, but her shot skimmed the top of the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.
In the second half, freshman Jaclyn O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) had a cleark look at goal with the goalie out of position, but Nicole Campellone stepped in front of the shot and blocked it, to keep the Beacons scoreless.
Tufts goalie Emily Bowers finished with five saves for her third-straight shutout and sixth overall.
