HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking to take down one of the top teams in New England, and the reigning NCAA New England Regional champions, UMass Boston came out firing in the first set. They would hold onto a decent lead for most of the opening frame, but with a late rush by the Ephs, Williams was able to take a 25-22 victory.
In the second set the Beacons battled back with some strong play at the net to tie the match at 1-1. The Beacons used a nine point run midway through the second to take control of the set, and they never looked back after the run.
Unfortunately the momentum from that set was not enough as the host Ephs pulled out a 25-20 win in the third, and a 25-19 win in the fourth.
Murphy, also posted a team-high .250 hitting percentage. Setter Pepper Baker (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished the match with 30 assists, but the Beacons offense as a whole struggled to get anything going as they hit just .096 on the night.
Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) was one of three Beacons to finish the match with 10 or more digs, as she posted a match-high 24. Haley Diedrick (Canton, Mich.) finished second on the team with 15 digs, and also had one solo block and three block assists.
Junior Colleen Koen (Centerville, Mass.) ended the loss with 12 kills, while freshman Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.) combined for 10 kills, and also had nine digs and two block assists.
